Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud? You decide ... here's Chapter 34

With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.

This time? A preseason game from a decade ago ... what could have changed since then?

The Cost (for me): Pocket change as part of a bulk lot.

The Ticket Stud (Key Player): 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick -- 12-for-18 for 158 yards,  two TDs -- in his first full season en route to a Super Bowl XLVII near-victory later on.
Others: 49ers: Delanie Walker (TD), A.J. Jenkins (TD), Anthony Dixon (TD), Nathan Palmer (TD), Garrett Celek (TD), David Akers (five XPs) ... Chargers: Nate Kaeding (FG)

What's Buzz-worthy: What's different between now and then besides pretty much everything? Candlestick Park -- no longer exists. 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh -- hello, Michigan. A 49ers team that went all the way to the Super Bowl -- with Kaepernick leading the way. Frank Gore. Alex Smith. Michael Crabtree. Randy Moss -- yes, that Randy Moss. Oh, and the San Diego Chargers. There's plenty more but you get the point. A punter on this ticket kind of makes it stand out as something different for sure and this simple ticket is relatively visual with some simple Action Packed embossing and spot gloss on the player so it still is pretty decent vs. some Ticketmaster special ...

Stud or Dud? ... but this ultimately was a meaningless preseason game and that's not because it was a rout. It wasn't meaningless to those aiming to make the team, of course, but all those scores and stats up top don't really count anywhere ... in fact, sites like ESPN and Pro Football Reference don't even have archived box scores for even the basics. This one is fine visually but ultimately a bit meaningless unless one collects punters (or their autographs as this might look cool signed) or want absolutely every ticket for your team or player. It's a respectable dud ... but it's here since it's NFL preseason time right now.
