With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.
This time? A decade ago in college football.
Keep reading to see the details this time ... and tell me if you think it's a Ticket Stud or a Ticket Dud.
THE DETAILS ...
The Category: College football
The Event: UCLA Bruins vs. Stanford Cardinal -- Oct. 19, 2013
The Results: Stanford 24, UCLA 10
The Attendance: 51,424 at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, Calif.
The Price: $45
The Cost (for me): Pocket change as part of a bulk lot.
The Ticket Stud (Key Player): Stanford RB Tyler Gaffney 36 carries for 171 yards and two TDs
Others: Stanford: QB Kevin Hogan (18-for-25, 227 yards, TD), WR Devon Cajuste (7 receptions, 109 yards), WR Kodi Whitfield (TD), DB Jordan Richards (two interceptions for 25 yards); UCLA: QB Brett Hundley (24-for-39, 192 yards, TD), WR Shaq Evans (TD)

What's Buzz-worthy: I pulled this one from my random box of tickets since it was today a decade ago ... and I can't say I knew much else until I hit up the box score. I can't say I know who David Yankey is on the ticket here (a two-time All-American), but I do know that Stanford had 18 NFL players on its roster this year and UCLA had 19 and that means there's some potential appeal here in the box score beyond the fans of the two teams. Also in there? Myles Jack, Ty Montgomery, It's not a bad-looking ticket, either, design-wise with a good number of components that give it a good feel and also includes the opposition's logo ... something that I think helps show off a showdown at a glance.
Stud or Dud? The match-up, historically, seems like a solid one and there are NFL names here, but beyond maybe adding a Gaffney auto -- this game was his -- this one feels respectable but also a dud.
