With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.

This time? Something on the ice.

Keep reading to see them and the details this time ... and tell me if you think it's a Ticket Stud or a Ticket Dud.

THE DETAILS ...
The Category:
NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs
The Game:
Montreal Canadiens vs. Philadelphia Flyers -- Game 7 Eastern Conference Finals, May 28, 2010
The Results: Game was not played ... Flyers won the series in five.
The Attendance: N/A
The Face: $70.95
The Cost (for me): Literal pocket change ... less than a stamp.

The Ticket Stud (Key Player): N/A
Others: N/A

What's Buzz-worthy: Buzz isn't really a hockey guy -- I'm fine with it, just can't collect everything -- but when I found this ticket in a recent bulk lot I thought it was interesting in that it's a postseason ticket for a team that came up just short of winning it all that year. But then I noticed something about this dateless ticket ... "Home Game 4" ... meaning it wasn't a Game 4 ... it was an if-necessary Game 7 ticket. (The fourth played at home in the series.) This was prepped for season ticket holders if it was needed (hence no date) but it wasn't ... so it's a phantom ticket. Aesthetically, it's pretty nice for a playerless ticket with plenty of team colors and, of course, the team's logo and the ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup. The team has one Hall of Famer on it, Chris Pronger, and a couple of other notables earlier in their careers so this newb doesn't see a lot else there for a newb collector on the autograph front despite the team's success. (That's perhaps what an item like this would be good for.)

Stud or Dud? I like the idea of tickets for games never played (phantom tickets) -- even more in postseason -- but these aren't all that uncommon. I'll give this a just-barely Stud ranking here since it was a good team on a good run and a postseason piece. It's nothing special in the big scheme but it's better than a lot of random tickets you'll find in bulk deals ... a little interesting for literal change.
