With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.
This time? A pair of MLB tickets from a few years ago this week.
Keep reading to see the details this time ... and tell me if you think it's a Ticket Stud or a Ticket Dud.
THE DETAILS ...
The Category: Major League Baseball
The Events: Los Angeles Angels at Boston Red Sox -- June 27, 2018
The Results: Red Sox 9, Angels 6
The Attendance: 37,521 at Fenway Park in Boston
The Price: $34 apiece
The Cost (for me): Pocket change as part of a bulk lot
The Ticket Studs (Key Players): Red Sox DH J.D. Martinez -- 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI
Others: Red Sox -- C Sandy Leon 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI, 2B Eduardo Nunez with a homer, Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers 3-for-4 with a double and RBI; Angels -- C Martin Maldonado with homer, SS Andrelton Simmons, 3-for-5, Mike Trout, Albert Pujols.

What's Buzz-worthy: A bunch of runs scored, a bunch of big names and an All-Star on the ticket itself, Chris Sale, but ultimately the biggest plays for this game are from guys who might be good but are not big collector names. Why did I pull this one from the mixed mystery box? Well, beyond the date -- that's yesterday in 2018 -- I liked the look here. It's sparse but it works and it has a solid Red Sox feel with perhaps some postmarked vibes but comes up short of being a Green Monster cliche like I'm sure a lot of Boston stuff can be. All in all I like it because it's not the typical look for a ticket.
Stud or Dud? There's a lot of name power here, but ultimately I think it's only a Sale kind of item at least for ink, maybe one for a collector of home run tickets or maybe one of the key names. I'll go with it being a Stud but ultimately nothing that big save for its look.
