With these Ticket Stud or Ticket Dud stories I'm turning just a tiny bit of that energy just a few degrees away from cards (we'll still have plenty of them here) for a different kind of cardboard. What am I doing? Simple ... this is an occasional dip into some random ticket lots -- a show and tell showing something small with a story.
This time? A trio of tickets that simply stink! (Yet are hilarious and part of a championship run that came up short.)
Keep reading to see the details this time ... and tell me if you think it's a Ticket Stud or a Ticket Dud.
THE DETAILS ...
The Category: College Football
The Events: South Dakota at Oregon on Aug. 30, 2014; Wyoming at Oregon on Sept. 13, 2014; Stanford at Oregon on Nov. 1, 2014
The Results: Oregon wins 62-13, Oregon wins 48-14, Oregon wins 45-16
The Attendance: 57,388, 56,533 and 58,794 -- all at Autzen Stadium
The Face: $16, $24 and $58
The Cost (for me): Literal pocket change as part of a lot.
The Ticket Studs (Key Players): Oregon junior QB Marcus Mariota 14-for-20, 267 yards, 3 TDs (vs. South Dakota); 19-for-23, 221 yards, 2 TDs (vs. Wyoming); 19-for-30, 258 yards, 2 TDs (vs. Stanford)
Others: Stanford freshman RB Christian McCaffrey -- one rush for zero yards, one catch for 10 yards, one return for 29 yards. (Note: Josh Allen transferred to Wyoming the following season so he was not on that team.)

What's Buzz-worthy: This trio of tickets was among a run of college pieces in a past lot pick-up, and they are old enough that most of the players in the box scores have come and gone from the NFL if they made it there at all. But, this Ducks season was the final one for Marcus Mariota before he won the Heisman Trophy and went second in the NFL Draft and that helps give these some interest. The opponents? No key names for the first two games but an early game (eighth career) for McCaffrey is interesting on the third, while other Stanford names include Kevin Hogan and reserve Barry J. Sanders. (Yes, Barry Sanders' kid.) But why did I pop this up here on a Friday afternoon? Well, besides being a reminder that the college football season will be upon us soon -- one of these tickets was August -- I thought one thing here made these foil-stamped, color coordinated stubs (different helmets as reminders to wear certain colors if in attendance) interesting was the corporate angle. These allegedly are scratch-and-sniff tickets -- I didn't smell anything -- and that stinks if the smell has simply worn off.
Stud or Dud? The scratch-and-sniff marketing was why I finally pulled these out of my mystery box ... but it turns out these have a couple of good names attached. And the team wasn't shabby, either, as they went 13-2 and that was all the way to the College Football Championship where they lost to Ohio State. I'm going surprising Stud as I had forgotten about all that ... I was tuned out on that one after Alabama lost the Sugar Bowl.
