Topps lands Trevor Lawrence for family-fueled set (updated)

Cardboard apparently is a family thing.

Trevor Lawrence is coming to Topps cards next month with a 50-card set designed by his sister-in-law and brother. The former Clemson star and likely No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft will be the focus, though details have not yet been fully released, according to a Sportico piece.

“We always try to celebrate and chronicle what’s going on in sports and pop culture,” Topps' director of e-commerce Jeff Heckman said in the piece. “This is the first time we’ve done anything like this.”

The set will not feature any Clemson or NFL trademarks, of course, as those rights for football cards are held by Panini America. The designers, Brooke and Chase Lawrence, crafted 20 of the cards in the forthcoming set, meanwhile the remainder of the set will be comprised of cards using past Topps football designs. Topps had been an NFL licensee until 2016.

Cards be sold via Topps' site in either pack/set form similar to Project 2020, Project70 and other Topps on Demand releases.

“We saw a lot of different people in the sneaker and fashion world collaborate with celebrities and musicians and artists, Heckman told Sportico. “We said, ‘We’ve got this great canvas that’s 2.5 x 3.5 inches. Why can’t we partner with artists and give them the creative reins, too?’”

The packs are $75 with 25 cards inside and are on Topps.com here. There are 50 cards in the set -- 30 using past Topps NFL card designs and then 20 art cards -- and there are two types of packs, the Rising Sun Edition and Moon Beamer Edition. Autographs (/99 max, with parallel versions) are one in five packs, while there are un-signed parallels in every other pack.
