Topps launches 70-card Sports Illustrated covers card set

We all know the power of Rookie Cards ... but what's a rookie cover card worth?

We're about to find out as Topps launched its 2021 Topps x Sports Illustrated card set today, which will arrive two cards per week for 35 weeks revisiting past covers from the magazine that launched back in 1954 with Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews on the cover ... and with sheets of paper Topps baseball cards inside the first issue, by the way.

The first card in the printed-on-demand series is Mike Trout and his first cover appearance from Aug. 27, 2012.

Just like other online offerings, this one will be printed to order after a seven-day offering window closes. So if 9,876 copies of this card are ordered then only 9,876 are made. The cards are $9.99 apiece direct from Topps but with volume discounts available (up to 20 cards for $79.99). Joining Trout in Week 1 is Hall of Famer Duke Snider on his June 27, 1955 cover.

There are chase cards to be found, too, with parallels including White wth Red stripes (/70), Canary Yellow (/25), Orange (/10), Red (/5) and 1/1 Silver cards that will be randomly inserted into orders in place of standard cards.

The set is intended to celebrate the 70-year anniversary of Topps cards and will include covers from the 1950s to today. We'll add them all below as they are revealed each week.
