Topps Star Wars Living Set arrives with new cards weekly

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away is now found on one more type of cardboard.

As it teased yesterday, Topps revealed the Topps Star Wars Living Set which will spotlight memorable characters on new artwork using the original design frame from when it all began for the franchise on cards.

The first card in the series? One of cinema's ultimate villains, Darth Vader, with artwork from artist Kris Penix.

Joining Vader will be Nien Nunb who co-piloted the Millennium Falcon to victory in Return of the Jedi. The cards are available only initially via Topps.com for one week and after that they will be printed to order, meaning if 700 copies are ordered then only 700 will be made. The cards are $7.99 apiece or $11.99 per two-card bundle with volume discounts available.

"Topps will only issue one card per character per film, live-action series or animated series," read the announcement of the series, which explains the film title line below their names.  "Two new characters will be offered every week."

According to Topps, Penix will be the artist for the series as a creator with "impeccable photo-realistic style [that] brings new life and perception to Star Wars characters."

The Living Set concept arrived last year for MLB and Topps recently launched a soccer line as well before this one's arrival.
