Topps teases new Muhammad Ali cards coming each week (updated)

The Greatest is coming to Topps.

Muhammad Ali will have new trading cards for boxing fans and others who might celebrate the social icon arriving next week via its site -- The People's Champ Trading Card Collection.

"Topps commemorates the life and career of Muhammad Ali with exclusive photography that depicts the historic and captivating story of the People's Champion," read a simple teaser released by the company on Friday. "Will only be available at Topps.com."

Nothing else was released beyond the image up top but we'll add more right here when it's available.

Update: The Topps Now model will be used for this one with two cards from a 100-card set released each week for $9.99 apiece (quantity discounts available) only via Topps.com right here. They will be available for one week only with all cards printed to order -- so the number ordered will match the number of cards printed. The set will use photos not seen before on Topps cards and include designs appropriate for the timeframes of what's depicted -- inside and outside of the ring. There also will be parallels for every card -- a /56 Black (the number of fights he won), /10 Red, /5 Silver and a 1/1 Yellow Gold -- randomly inserted into orders. These standard-size cards will be printed on 16-point Heritage-style stock.

Ali has appeared on literally thousands of trading cards through the years -- far more than all other boxers -- with a number of his own products previously released with autographs and memorabilia cards via Leaf Trading Cards in recent years and then via Upper Deck in the early 2000s. He's had other cards here and there in Olympic sets and even one-offs like the 2014 Topps Heritage News Flashbacks.

Ali died at age 74 back in 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson's -- you can learn more about some of his card appearances right here.

Topps launches Rumble in the Jungle set

Update (March 23): A second Ali set from Topps is here and the 2021 Topps Muhammad Ali Rumble in the Jungle by Tyson Beck release is the same price and sales format but with the Australian artist's signature collage style taking over for its own set. You can see the first card below.
