University of Racing lets collectors land some legendary ink

A number of NASCAR legends' autographs can be found on some legendary diecasts as part of a series of replicas with an appropriate name.

It's called the University of Racing.

lionel-signed-cale-yarborough-1965-2 The line isn't new, but a number of the signed 1:24 scale diecasts are among those now available via Lionel Racing in its online store without any type of membership, which is typically needed to land the rarer pieces and other new autographed items from the company.

Among the available signers available right now are Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, A.J. Foyt, David Pearson, Donnie Allison, Mario Andretti, Marvin Panch, Ned Jarrett, Fred Lorenzen and Junior Johnson. Most of them are NASCAR Hall of Famers and some don't sign that much -- Johnson and Foyt, for example, have fewer than 25 certified autograph cards. Meanwhile, Panch died on Dec. 31, 2015.
