Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has a new team for years to come.
The 23-year-old Toronto Blue Jays star who hit 48 homers last season signed a "long-term historic partnership" with Topps that was revealed on Tuesday.
"Topps has become synonymous with baseball after over 70 years of commemorating record-breaking moments and iconic players through our rich heritage of trading cards," said David Leiner, Topps VP and GM of Global Sports & Entertainment. "This new partnership with Vlad is an extension of our dynamic product portfolio, showcasing players’ talents and personalities in compelling and innovative ways. We’re excited to continue evolving with fans and collectors alike as we kick off a new chapter for our brands through upcoming collaborations with the biggest superstars in sports and entertainment."
The deal will include an exclusive for trading cards as well as "a variety of game-used items such as helmets, elbow/shin guards, batting gloves, bats, jerseys, hats and socks to be cut up and included in future trading card products." He will also appear on products, social networks and other promotions.
"I look forward to continuing my partnership with Topps in providing baseball fans everywhere," Guerrero said, "with the high-quality product they have become accustomed to."
Guerrero hit 48 home runs and .311, finishing second in the AL MVP race last year. The son of a Hall of Famer, his first baseball cards arrived in 2015 prospect releases with his first Bowman cards in 2016. He's appeared on more than 7,800 different cards with almost a third of those being certified autographs.
