What errors and variations might be found in 2018 Topps Heritage?

Now that we know what the 2018 Topps Heritage baseball card checklist looks like, we can now ponder the possibilities for errors and variations that are an homage to the 1969 Topps set that this one is modeled after.
And it's that set from the past -- one with a number of errors made back then -- that can offer the clues when those are compared to who appears on the set slated to arrive next week.
One favorite mistake that wasn't corrected back in 1969 probably won't get an homage in this one as Heritage is merely a 500-card set. The 1969 Topps Aurelio Rodriguez -- one that famously shows batboy Leonard Garcia -- is card No. 653. (Maybe we'll get that one in Heritage High Number?)
Keep reading for a few possibilities among the first 500 cards from 1969 ...
Color swaps have been a normal feature in Heritage for several years now and they're the most-prevalent error and variation in the 1969 set with both names in white letters the rarer of the pairings. Among the more than 20 cards with this problem are Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle (No. 500), Gaylord Perry (485) and Willie McCovey (440) along with Ralph Houk, Mel Stottlemyre and a number of other players -- some even two-player Rookie Cards. We can expect color swaps but there may not be a pattern to these tied to 1969 as all of them were on cards above No. 440 in the fifth series.
One error that this collector is guaranteeing we'll see once again is the Graig Nettles RC loop error where an errant piece of striping (above) is found on a version of card No. 99 in the 1969 set. Card No. 99 in Heritage? Twins Rookies Felix Jorge and Zack Granite. It can't be a coincidence.
Another card very likely to be emulated -- but not one that seems like a lock -- is card No. 49 where Royals rookie Ellie Rodriguez had his name spelled Rodriquez back in 1969. This year's card? It's of Stephen Vogt, whose name seems appropriate for a typo of this type, though he's a member of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Checklists are back in the 2018 set and card No. 107 is a checklist just like 1969. Back then, it was a wrong name on its back that got fixed. We won't get a similarly named change as card No. 161 in this year's set is Yu Darvish, but you can bet that it's still a possibility.
There are a few cards with dramatic changes in 1969 and one of them is card No. 151 of Clay Dalrymple who has both an Orioles and a Phillies card. Card No. 151 in this year's set? It's the Orioles' Manny Machado. He's obviously not a catcher, but perhaps there could still be a paralleling of this one.
Another card with a big change -- at least just with type and color -- is No. 208 of Donn Clendenon, who has both Expos and Houston cards. This year's No. 208? It's Houston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel. You can probably count on something here.
Card No. 209 in the 1969 set has an uncorrected error where the photo of former Orioles catcher Larry Haney has a reversed negative on his card after his move to the Seattle Pilots. Ironically, the same photo was used on his 1968 card -- not flipped. The oddity that is this one is likely to be echoed in Heritage as card 209 is of Dee Gordon, who joined Seattle via a trade in December.
Other possibilities that are found in 1969 are a little less likely as they involve the relatively crude airbrushing of team logos on helmets and hats in the set. Card 47 of Paul Popovich and No. 77 of Ron Perranoski have issues with logos being seen. These two cards in the 2018 set are Mike Trout and Brian McCann. I don't see the parallels but they're always possible variations based on things we've seen in recent years.
Other cards with mistakes here that were not corrected include No. 184 (wrong date of birth), 267 (same error), 560 (stats error) and a coloring mistake on a checklist (No. 582).
Which of these will make the cut for Heritage? We'll find out in the coming days.
