Conor McGregor's retirement tweet on Tuesday sparked a flurry of action on Twitter and on the airwaves and that furor is likely to be reflected on his popular cardboard, too.
Once we know what the deal is.
"I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya's later," he said on Twitter.
Could this just be angling for more cheese from UFC coming off a big loss in his 19-3 MMA career? Could he be heading to the WWE where his talents could be showcased but without the legitimate damage to his body from a single match? He's recently followed some big WWE names -- the hiring types -- on Twitter.
We'll find out.
The 27-year-old's cardboard is among the more sought-after in the UFC ranks, though he has fewer than 200 total cards. He has just 55 different certified autographs, including his 2013 Topps UFC Bloodlines card that was his first. That card has consistently sold for more than $500 on eBay with this auction being the recent high.
Walking away from MMA with a shorter but memorable resume could help his cardboard -- but remaining in the public eye would be how values would be sustained or grown. Joining the marketing behemoth called WWE could spark even more interest as a new base of fans learn more about the fighter.
