All that limousine riding and jet flying is to get to the Panini America VIP Party on Saturday night.
Professional wrestling legend "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair is the ninth star that Panini has revealed for the event tomorrow night in Chicago.
The 16-time world champion is a member of several wrestling Halls of Fame and has been a global star for WWE, WCW, the NWA and other past organizations as one of the top heels in pro wrestling history. He had his first certified autographs made by Panini in its 2009 Americana release -- and, if you're to believe him back in the day, his shoes cost more than your house.
Earlier today, Panini revealed that former Atlanta Braves slugger Chipper Jones will be on hand. The former third baseman and outfielder hit .303 with 468 home runs and 1,623 RBI in his 19-year career that included a World Series ring in 1995, eight All-Star appearances, an NL MVP award and an NL batting title.
On Thursday, Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman and 500 Home Run Club member Rafael Palmeiro were announced. In 18 seasons for the Marlins, Padres and Brewers Hoffman recorded 601 saves, which is second on the all-time list.
Palmeiro, who played 20 seasons for the Cubs, Rangers and Orioles, is one of only a few retired members of the 3,000 Hit Club who is not in the Hall of Fame. He ranks 29th in MLB history there and also had 569 home runs in his career after starring at Mississippi State.
On Wednesday, Panini revealed Former Philadelphia Eagles star Randall Cunningham andPro Football Hall of Famer and former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka as guest for its big show coinciding with The National. On Tuesday, the company revealed that Basketball Hall of Famer Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, former NBA Slam Dunk Champion Spud Webb as well as Patrick Renna of The Sandlot all will be part of the party.
Cunningham also played for the Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens as part of a 15-year career that included 29,979 passing yards, 207 touchdowns and Player of the Year honors three times. He also rushed for 4,928 yards and 35 touchdowns in his career.
Ditka, who first won a Super Bowl ring with the Dallas Cowboys in 1972, coached the Bears to a dominating win in Super Bowl XX. As a player, he had 427 catches for 5,812 yards and 43 touchdowns for the Bears, Eagles and Cowboys before he was named to the NFL's 75th Anniversary team and had his number retired by the Bears. He then coached for the Cowboys (assistant), Bears and Saints for parts of three decades.
Cooper, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, had a career that included four WNBA titles, four Finals MVPs, two season MVPs and plenty of other honors after starring at Southern California and having plenty of successful playing time in Europe before the WNBA arrived.
Webb, who was a fourth-round pick in 1985, stood just 5-foot-7 but was a standout for the Hawks and Kings for most of his career when he averaged 9.9 points a game. He w0n the 1986 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
Renna made his film debut in the 1993 classic revolving around a group of baseball-loving kids. His other credits have included spots on Boy Meets World, Home Improvement, The X-Files, ER, Judging Amy, The Closer, Boston Legal, CSI, Bones and GLOW.
More guests will be announced in the coming days as the company reveals details during The National, which runs through Sunday at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.
