Don't call it a Dusty Finish ... it's more like a Royal Rumble countdown for a new tag team.
A week before Panini America's first WWE card release drops as part of its new card licensing deal, Fanatics and WWE revealed on Monday that the former license-holder will become its next exclusive card-maker at the expiration of that deal in a few years. Before that, Fanatics will handle WWE's "e-commerce and licensed merchandise, as well as physical, digital, and non-fungible token trading cards" as part of a "comprehensive, long-term sports and entertainment partnership." (Translation: It will handle its website sales like it does for other sports leagues via WWEShop.com.)
“Fanatics is the industry leader and Michael Rubin is a visionary,” said Vince McMahon, WWE Chairman & CEO in a prepared release. “We believe this multi-platform partnership will set a new standard for WWE e-commerce, apparel and merchandise, while providing our fans globally with more ways than ever to engage with WWE and our Superstars.”
The WWE Shop revamp will come later this year. The move also will mean Fanatics gains "rights to design, manufacture and distribute real-time, on-demand merchandise collections to celebrate unpredictable WWE moments and new and emerging Superstars."
Fanatics also addressed the card licensing in its announcement.
"Fanatics Collectibles, the company’s trading cards and collectibles division, will also become the exclusive provider of licensed WWE physical and digital trading cards, which will once again bear the nostalgic Topps logo," the announcement said. "Fanatics acquired the legendary 70-year-old Topps brand earlier this year, which previously held a long-term relationship with WWE. That deal will commence when WWE’s existing trading cards rights expire over the next few years."
Candy Digital will be a "primary NFT partner" with the deal.
