What's Buzz-worthy: Remember these? I barely did when I found them online for a fourth of their regular box price ($19.99) back in the day. Being dirt-cheap, I had to bite on some boxes here (though my outer boxes were beat up vs. what you see here). These game-used displays are simple acrylic display cases for MLB Authenticated dirt capsules or chunks of game-used bases. I remember finding them at Walmarts way back in the day and bought one then -- don't remember who I landed but there's a good shot that it wasn't any players of this caliber as three of the four will likely end up in Cooperstown (two of them already are). Dirt displays aren't all that uncommon now but back then they weren't as easily found. Demand? I'm still not sure it's there for that many collectors, but these are odd enough I find them appealing -- at least when they're this cheap. Something oddly interesting here? A card in a top-loader will fit perfectly in the back of the acrylic case (they aren't sealed to the base) in case you land somebody you don't like. Game-used bases are tougher finds at one in 11 boxes, while "Diamond Stars" displays with a slice of a base and a capsule of dirt are one in 21 boxes. There are also "Gold Edition" chase displays that are limited to only 10 copies (one in 50 boxes) and have a gold plastic base if you think that somehow makes it better. Check eBay and you won't find a lot of these -- especially unopened boxes -- and you'll see asking prices higher than $5. That makes me feel a little better about my dirt-cheap find.
